As a child, I would always respond to the question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” with “an artist”. I dabbled a bit here and there with creativity, but never had the time to get serious about it. I moved a yellow plastic toolbox filled with oil painting paraphernalia around for 40 years, just recently resigning most of it to the trash. My dream…to take a watercolor painting class. Finally, finally, finally, at 59 I signed up for an adult ed watercolor painting class. I was scared to death as I walked into that classroom, but determined that I was ready to try. Best thing ever. I was a little frustrated, but by the end of 8 weeks I had completed a painting that I liked.
My photo is a bit fuzzy, but this was the beginning of my wonderful watercolor journey! Since then I’ve taken several other classes, watched lots of videos online and learned a lot about this “most difficult” medium. I can’t say I’ve “mastered” it by any means, but I’m having a great time doing it and being part of the artist community. I joined the Lakes Region Art Association, and in November 2018 set up my first panel in the LRAA Gallery, which is located in the Tanger Outlet Mall in Tilton, NH.
Update! The Gallery has moved! As of April 1, 2021 we moved into a larger, brighter, more visible location in the Tanger Outlets. Look for us on the far right side in the corner, next to the restrooms and the playground.
